Promote positive change

Learn to be an effective, dynamic leader in any setting.

With a curriculum that can be applied to any major, the Mercy Leadership minor provides you with in-depth knowledge on the background principles, theory, and techniques of leadership.

But leadership is about more than management—it’s using your skills and insight to make the world a better place. By emphasizing teamwork, problem-solving, self-awareness, and effective communication, you’ll graduate prepared to lead in diverse settings and make meaningful contributions to your community.

As part of this program, you’ll also take Leadership Foundations, the first course in our Master of Strategic Leadership program, at no extra cost. Focusing on leadership theory, you’ll use self-reflection to develop and create your own leadership style. This allows you to enjoy all the advantages of a graduate-level class, gaining the opportunity to learn from community leaders.

Jacob Perks

I became a better leader after serving the community. Getting out of my comfort zone and working with individuals that I’ve never been around helped me network and build connections that I would have never imagined.

Curriculum

Through a combination of coursework and beyond-the-classroom learning opportunities, you’ll develop the sought-after skills of a leader. More than that, we connect theory to servant leadership and the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy—helping you promote the common good.

After completing this program, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify and apply different leadership theories, practices, and skills
  • Develop a holistic understanding of yourself and how that applies to leadership
  • Evaluate group dynamics and use conflict resolution techniques
  • Demonstrate effective communication
  • Recognize the importance and value of diversity as it applies to leadership
