Care for man’s best friends

Experience tailored towards your career goals.

Strong advising and faculty support, proximity to veterinarian services, and our extensive pre-veterinary medicine curriculum make Mount Mercy University ideal for any student preparing for a future in veterinary medicine.

Pre-professional programs are undergraduate tracks that prepare you for a professional degree after your bachelor's. These aren't academic majors, they're a set of specialized courses that are typically required before you can be accepted into your next program. Your advisor will help you decide the best major to pair with your pre-professional program and prepare you for your career goals.

Students following our pre-vet track typically choose to major in biology or chemistrywhich offers a popular biochemistry track. Double majors or combinations of a major and minor can be accomplished easily with a well-planned schedule and steady academic progress.

Beyond core classes, students also take courses tailored to their interests, such as animal behavior, genetics, immunology, general microbiology, cell and molecular biology, and biochemistry II.

The biology and chemistry programs challenged me in a way that I was never challenged before, and that is why I am still currently successful as a veterinary student now. The courses teach you not only the basics, but challenge you to use critical thinking, application of knowledge, and increase your problem-solving skills.
