Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement

Mount Mercy University is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement in the Office of Development & Alumni Relations.

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and coordinating alumni and community engagement programming that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction between the University and its alumni and other constituents. This professional will be an integral part of developing strategies for effective engagement and providing consistent evaluation of programming.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance, most important first)

  1. * Assist in the creation and execution of a comprehensive alumni and community engagement program designed to increase alumni engagement, as well as donor support.
  2. * Manage and serve as primary contact for various events, ensuring their successful completion. Duties include coordination with vendors, campus partners, and volunteers, completion of planning guides, creation of needed materials (promotional/marketing communications, event summaries, financial reports), appropriate follow up and maintenance of event tracking information. Specifically, responsible for the facilitation of all aspects related to the awards programs, Homecoming, reunions, spirit/support days.
  3. * Manage the multi-channel strategy, content creation, and execution for alumni communications, with a primary focus on digital platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the alumni website. Develop and curate engaging content that fosters alumni connections, that drives giving, and strengthens community relationships. This process includes idea creation, drafting, editing, and managing production schedules.
  4. * Collaborate and assist in the planning, implementation, and promotion of programs that support the University’s strategic priorities, including special recognition events, such as dedications/groundbreakings/campaign events.
  5. * Coordinate activities, meetings, and communications with the Alumni Board and its membership.
  6. * Cultivate donor relationships and solicit alumni. Responsibilities might include coordination and execution of a student engagement/education program, planning of the Senior Reception, and involvement in giving days (Have Mercy, Give Mercy).
  7. * Assist in direction of work-study students, including providing feedback and clear direction and arranging tasks to align with top priorities of the office.
  8. * Provide support for events and special projects requiring some evening, weekend hours, and possibly overnight travel.
  9. Participate in professional development activities, including participation in conferences and meetings as appropriate, to advance knowledge of best practices as related to job duties.
  10. * Classified as an End User and is responsible for day-to-day data entry, including relevant event data, and running established reports as needed. End User attends training, adhere to documented procedures, and maintain data integrity.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.

General Classification Requirements

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or 6 years of experience in area of responsibility or related area.

Specific Requirements (Necessary to fill this position)

Individual must be a self-starter, highly organized, demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and customer service. He/she must be able to handle multiple projects with various deadlines. He/she must be able to communicate with a variety of internal and external constituencies (oral and written) as well as have solid computer experience (experience /willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge). Occasionally, it may be necessary to vary the number of hours and/or specific days worked per week. Compensation will be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended.
