Our Students Say it Best

“I have had the opportunity to attend Mount Mercy University, an amazingly diverse school made up of students of different nationalities speaking different languages and a place I call my second home. I have all the support I need, and I know when I graduate, there still will be support and help available for me. Students are like my brothers and sisters, and teachers are like parents. I’m very proud to be a student at MMU.” —Masine Zakaria '18, Togo

“Being at a smaller university, Mount Mercy gave me the opportunity to work one-on-one with my professors. I have been able to take independent studies with them and participate in research. Currently, I am working on a project that delves into the idea that some form of unconscious racism exists and can influence people with political power. Working directly with Dr. Dennis Dew has been an amazing experience as he has helped me to better understand concepts of social psychology and how it affects the world around me. In addition, Dr. Dew is giving me the chance to be published alongside him for this project and present on the topic in later months.

This project has given me the opportunity to get hands-on experience and boost my resume, which enhances my chances of getting into a master’s program. Most importantly, it has helped reinforce the concepts I learn in the classroom to become a better student. I am very grateful for the opportunities Mount Mercy has given me to help me become a psychologist in the future.” —Amy McGlynn '18, Australia

“I came to the U.S. four years ago with not much more than a suitcase full of soccer cleats and clothes. During my collegiate career I spent vast amounts of my time at MMU chasing athletic accolades and success in the classroom. However, my experiences off the field and outside the classroom are the ones that prepared the most for life after graduation.

I held an internship with the Office of Marketing & Communications at Mount Mercy for three years, which introduced me to many concepts of digital marketing. This first opportunity led directly to my second practical training: a full-time, paid summer internship over with Stamats, a leading firm in higher education marketing headquartered in Cedar Rapids. Upon graduation, I landed a job in international business—my field of choice—thanks to the many experiences I was able to gather at MMU.

I am grateful that Mount Mercy gave me the tools to pursue these opportunities, but I advise every student to take the first step—ask, look, and apply to said offerings.” —Marco Fichtner '17, Germany

“My time at Mount Mercy University has been great so far! I came here as international student from Germany and got to witness American hospitality as well as college athletics first hand! Now after three years, I have international friends around the world. Besides combining soccer, studies, and English, the personal relationships I made here are the most valuable experience. Not only made that experience make me grow as an athlete but as a person as well, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity to study at Mount Mercy.” —Max Rieger '19, Germany

“It only took one last-minute visit to Mount Mercy for me to know that this was the school for me to complete my undergraduate years. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made thus far. Aside from the wonderful classroom atmosphere, social activities, and diverse campus, MMU helped me realize my passion for service too. My favorite part of this by far was that I got to serve not only in my local community but also in different communities in need across the nation. Each service trip was an eye opener to matters of social injustice and how these related to the core values of MMU.” —Nakola Nyambe '17, Zambia

“The classes I have been taking so far at MMU were excellent. I’ve had many discussions with other students that I have never experienced before, and the small size classes are great as you can get to know the classmates. In addition, MMU always has some activities and events that we can go to with friends and family. These events are available for all MMU students, both undergraduate and graduate.

Mount Mercy University is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the heart of United States. It is one of the largest cities in Iowa. Most of the people here are very friendly. Just minutes to an hour away, we also can visit beautiful parks in Iowa. If you want to visit big cities, Chicago is only 3 hours away to drive from Cedar Rapids.” —Talissa Sari '19, Indonesia
