MMU to host Cross Country National Championships

NAIA Cross Country Championships

The city of Cedar Rapids will welcome hundreds of runners and thousands of fans to next week's NAIA Cross Country National Championships, hosted by Mount Mercy University at Seminole Valley Park.

The women's 5K and men's 8K races are slated for Friday, Nov. 16. The day begins with the 39th Annual NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championship at 10:30 a.m., followed by the 63rd Annual NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship at 11:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow at the Cedar Rapids Marriott at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The week's festivities also include the Teaming Up for Character 1K Fun on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at Seminole Valley Park. As part of the NAIA's Champions of Character initiative, student-athletes from competing teams will be paired with nearly 300 local elementary school children to encourage sportsmanship and character in athletics. The session will be capped off with a kids 1K fun run.
