Aquinas is well-known for his systematic theological treatises, as well as his commentaries on Scripture and philosophy. But how well known is his spiritual treatise? Of course, he doesn’t have a spiritual treatise. Dominican Sister, Sister Mary Angelica, has stumbled upon a kind of “Thomistic spirituality” where she draws out the spiritual teachings of the theological Master from his major works. In answer to the question, “How can I become holy?” Sister Mary Angelica will unpack Aquinas’ succinct answer: “Will it.”
After a degree in Painting, and having taught all grades, 1 through 12, at various schools, Sister Mary Angelica earned a Doctorate in Sacred Theology (S.T.D.) in Moral Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, the Angelicum, in Rome in 2011. From 2007-present, she has been an assistant professor of Theology at Aquinas College in Nashville, TN, and she directed Aquinas Abroad, the study abroad program in Bracciano, Italy from 2014-2017. Currently, Sister Mary Angelica is a Religious Affiliate Assistant Professor of Theology at the University of Dallas, Texas, where she has been teaching in the Theology Department since 2018.
