Author, journalist and backcountry ranger Ken Ilgunas will speak about his journey across North America at Mount Mercy University on March 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Betty Cherry Heritage Hall. Ilgunas trekked 1,700 miles across North America, following the proposed route of the Keystone XL pipeline to answer the question: What is our personal responsibility as stewards of the land?

DAVENPORT, Iowa. – The Mustangs competed in another full weekend of softball at the Saint Ambrose Dome. Losing three games by just one run, the Mustangs bounced back ending the weekend with a win by the 10-run rule. After this weekend, the Mustangs move to 3-5 on the season.On Saturday, the Mustangs kicked off the weekend against the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University. Crossing home plate first in the top of the third inning, the Mustangs grabbed the lead. The Mustangs held the lead for two innings until the home team struck in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own.

LAMONI, Iowa/MARSHALL, Mo. – The Mustangs were on the road this weekend for two Heart of America Conference matchups after given the number nine spot in the most current NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll. Collecting two road wins over the Yellowjackets of Graceland University and the Vikings of Missouri Valley College, the Mustangs remain undefeated in conference play and sit atop the standings with a perfect 5-0 record. Overall, the Mustangs are 13-5 on the season.On Friday night, the Mustangs swept the Yellowjackets 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-18).

NEW ORLEANS, La. - On Thursday, February 21, Regional Athletes of the Year for the 2019 NAIA Indoor Track & Field season were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Kathryn Vander Poel (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) was named the Midwest Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.Vander Poel earns this national recognition after a record-breaking season upon the indoor track.

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Mount Mercy Track and Field Teams traveled to compete in the Wartburg Indoor Invite. This was one last opportunity to qualify for the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championship. The women placed fifth of nine teams with the men finishing seventh of eight. Kathryn Vander Poel (SR/Bakersfield, Calif.) stole the show as she claimed first place in the 800 Meters with a personal best time of 2:17.60.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Over the weekend, Mount Mercy Men's Volleyball hosted the Mustang Triangular. Participating teams were the first-year program of Viterbo University and No. 6 Aquinas College. After sweeping the V-Hawks to extend an eight-match win streak, the Mustangs' momentum was halted by the nationally-ranked Saints. With the weekend split of non-conference faceoffs, the Mustangs move to 11-5 overall.In the first match of the day, the Mustangs swept the V-Hawks 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-21).

Recent studies conducted by the Pew Research Center show one of the top reasons young people abandon their Christian faith is because they believe it conflicts with science. To address this topic, three nationally known Catholic scholars will visit Mount Mercy University for a new spring lecture series titled Explorations in Faith & Reason.
