Framing the future
Driven by her love for bowling and her passion for caring for others, Tara Trcka ’17 made the decision to begin her educational journey on the Hill.
Tara loved the small, homey feelings she got when she first visited campus. Getting to pursue her love of bowling and practice with the team at her family’s bowling alley were other motivating factors when it came to choosing Mount Mercy University. Bowling was just one thing that brought Tara to the hill.
“I really liked how small the classes were because I felt it was more one-on-one. I wasn't just another number. I got to know my professors, so I felt better about asking questions.”
Tara wanted to do something in the world of health care but was considering a few different paths.

Tara knew that biology as her major was the right choice. She also pursued a minor in psychology, which she thought would help her health care career.
During her time at Mount Mercy Tara met her fiancé, Seth Pennock ’16, ’18 MBA. Seth is now an Assistant Professor of Business at Mount Mercy, and the pair are set to wed in spring of this year.
“I have a lot of memories. Meeting my fiancé, being on the bowling team, traveling, and meeting people that have become lifelong friends.”
After getting her bachelor's degree in biology at Mount Mercy, Tara went on to Creighton University to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy. Tara is now a physical therapist at UnityPoint Health.
“I really enjoy making connections with people. Being a physical therapist, I get to see people on a weekly or twice a week basis, so I get to know more about them.”

Tara is also the Assistant Coach for the Mount Mercy Women’s Bowling Team.
“As a physical therapist, I'm a movement specialist. So being able to also watch their form and make sure they're doing things correctly and sharing the wealth of exercises that they can do to keep themselves healthy is amazing.”
Tara is grateful for her position as an assistant coach, as it allows her to blend her passions for both bowling and physical therapy. She can advise her athletes with a plethora of ways to keep their bodies in the best shape and form possible.
“I enjoy challenging athletes, both physically and mentally, while also applying my expertise.”
