Arrest Made by CRPD

The Cedar Rapids Police Department has made an arrest in the November 3 shooting incident that injured our student. More details are posted on their Facebook page.

11/9 campus update

The Mount Mercy student who was injured in a shooting near campus has returned to active engagement on campus. The CRPD reported the investigation has made meaningful progress, and they are optimistic that more information about the case will be available soon.

11/4 campus update

The student who was injured was released from the hospital last night. We wish him well as he continues to recover with his family at home.

We are implementing a shuttle service for students from main campus to the RAC and PAC. The shuttle will meet outside the Busse Center atrium and run on the hour for the hours below starting today.

  • Monday-Thursday: 7:00 AM-10:00 PM
  • Friday: 7:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM-2:00 PM
  • Sunday: 4:00 PM–10:00 PM

In addition to this service, Campus Security continues to offer a chaperone service for students and employees. Please call Campus Security at (319) 360-4839 to be escorted to your dorm, office, or vehicle.

There will be an increased security patrol on our main campus and CRST International Graduate Center.

Counseling services continue to be available for students Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. If you are looking for services, go to the Student Services desk on the second floor of the University Center. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Dr. Caroline Gimarc, our Director of Counseling Services, at cgimarc@mtmercy.edu.

11/3 campus update

Students and employees, thank you for being diligent and following today’s request to shelter in place that was put out via Rave.

If you feel you would benefit from talking with someone individually or in a group, our main campus counseling center will be open until 8:00 PM tonight in room UC 210 near the second floor McAuley elevator.

Counseling Services are available for students Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. If you are looking for services, you can go to the Student Services’ desk on the second floor of the University Center. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Dr. Gimarc, our Director of Counseling Services (CGimarc@mtmercy.edu).

Our Residential Peer Ministers and Campus Ministry department will be available for spiritual support as well.

Campus Security continues to offer escort services for students. They can be contacted at (319) 360-4839 or by dialing 1234 on any campus phone.

Campus Security is partnering with the Cedar Rapids Police Department to step up patrolling the area for the next several days.

We encourage students to stay vigilant of their surroundings, and if they see something to report it to Campus Security. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the student as he recovers with his family.

11/3 press release

Shooting near Mount Mercy University campus

A Mount Mercy University student was injured in a shooting earlier today. The student is being treated and is not in critical condition. The family has been notified.

The incident occurred near Elmhurst Drive and Hazel Drive near the Mount Mercy University campus. Mount Mercy instituted a lockdown procedure as a precaution and has since released the lockdown. The Cedar Rapids Police Department does not believe there is an ongoing threat. We are cooperating with the police department to assist with the investigation in any way possible.

Mount Mercy will be provide counseling support for our students, faculty, and staff.
